When we talk about South African hip-hop and producers, there is no way Master A Flat isn’t brought up. South African producers have quickly become Africa’s best kept secret; known for their musical ear, as well as mixing and matching genres to create new genre-bending hits. And unsurprisingly, these revolutionary beat makers are now sought after by some of the biggest musical acts on the continent and the world.
Master A Flat is one of the South African producers who is leading the charge and changing the game sonically. His work with Riky Rick, known for unashamedly pushing the boundaries in all creative mediums, is what made him a natural choice to be Riky’s right hand man in the Rémy Producers series. Master A Flat’s ear for music and understanding of production, 808’s and live instruments make him the perfect man to assist Riky in the selection process.
Master A Flat, whose real name is Mpilo Shabangu, has never been one to walk away from a challenge. After teaching himself to play multiple instruments, he started hanging out with his cousin Tazzy (also a producer) – and the rest as they say is history. Like his idol Kanye West, Master A Flat has managed to make a name for himself in hip hop, while staying true to who he is.
Welcome to the Rémy Martin family, Master A Flat.
